MU is getting to be a big pain in the ass, so I’m going to be manually switching it down when I have time. It was fun, but it’s over for now.

For those of you with currently-active blogs, I’m going to switch you over to a single install. What does this mean? Well not much, just your login will no longer log you in to everyone else’s blog to leave comments. But that’s pretty standard. It also means you get more control over themes and plugins which is pretty sweet. All your posts and comments and pages will still be there, and there’ll be a hell of a lot more themes available.

I may do a switch-around with the domain or not, it depends. Will email and ask before doing anything though.

New Themes!

July 23rd, 2009

Added four new themes that can be used. They’re pretty neat. As always if you Google “Wordpress Themes” and find one you like, poke me to add it!

The new themes are:

  • Cordobo Green Park 2
  • LightWord
  • Pixel
  • Pyrmont V2

They can be found by going to your dashboard and then Appearance -> My Theme. Some have extra options you can customize them with as well, if so a new menu will appear under the Appearance grouping.

Made a couple minor tweaks to some features as well. Hopefully going to get the forum running again soon.

Backups!

July 22nd, 2009

Finally got off my ass to do this. The database (so posts/settings etc…) and uploads (the stuff you upload to posts) are now backed-up nightly, automatically. A full site backup (everything) is done monthly as well, also automatically.

Noting, I’ve rewritten the visibility options plugin (you probably don’t remember it). If you don’t remember it, that’s cool, but it lets you pick how your blog appears on the collaborative main site.

This update moved the settings, making it so much easier for me to implement, but also meant that blogs have default options when created instead of the old issues where unless you saved your settings you’d not have the options and blah blah blah geek talk.

Yay for progress! Well, at the moment the options don’t do anything aside from saving to the database. But when I finish the new front page design (shouldn’t take long, just hacking the current one) then it’ll be working :)

FYI, did you know you can make your own backups? Yep, if you want to ditch this blog or want to save a backup for your own peace of mind just do it through the Tools -> Export page.

EDIT @ 1:16am: Updated the blog list widget in the side bar, this now listens to the options so if you choose to hide yourself it’ll be hidden. This widget can also be displayed on your own blogs, just enable the plugin through the plugins page and then drag/drop the widget on the page.

Fresh Install

July 21st, 2009

Due to issues automatically upgrading BlooLagoo’s backend software I had to reinstall manually. This did cause some issues, and I ended up had to restore everything by hand. NOT FUN!

Your blogs should still be here, I didn’t bring them all back only the ones who had actual posts etc… I do have them all saved though.

To log in you’re going to have to reset your password as the old ones couldn’t be recovered. The email address is whatever you set it as though (need help, poke me!)

Couple of changes, there are more plugins you can choose to install. Also the site is now invite-only, so to have a friend create a blog you’ll have to invite them from your dashboard.

Forums will be down for a while as that requires a reinstall due to user changes.

But it was worth it! Trust me on that :)

Updates

July 4th, 2009

I know, nothing has happened here for a long time. Right now one common feature nobody realizes that you should enter your blog, go to the Settings -> BlooLagoo options page and you’ve got options on how your blog shows up on the main site! (Unfortunately at the moment you must save at least once for it to work).

If your blog isn’t appearing in the sidebar or anything, that’s because of these silly options.

I’m going to rewrite that script (which was custom created by me!) and make it so they’re on by default. And so they actually work.

Will add some new themes and new plugins, and also change the homepage slightly. It’s going to have the featured blog first and then any extracts later.

Here’s hoping it all goes well :)

Slow and Tired Website

March 18th, 2009

So BlooLagoo has been neglected as late, which is sad. I know, T_T.

It does not matter though, your blog will still be here around. I’m just writing this to mention some updates that have happened and will happen.

There is an options page called BlooLagoo Options inside your admin dashboard. What this does is basically allow you to control how your blog interacts with this main domain.

If you’re wondering why your blog doesn’t show up on the main site anymore, that’s why. By default we assume you want to be private, if you want to appear on the front page you need to go into your options and say so.

I’m going to rework the front page of this main site as well, to display user content as well as site news better.

Hope you’re all well, and wish you all luck into getting back into blogging!

Wordpress 2.7

January 28th, 2009

So sometime in the next few weeks (hopefully) MU (which is what is running here) will update to match the current Wordpress version. This update does bring a lot of changes to it, which may not be seen in the site’s front-end, but it is seen in the backend.

As you can see from the backend some changes are a foot. While it’s a little different, trust me when I say it’s a lot better. Easier to use and just nicer to look at.

Before I upgrade I will notify all of you and do a full and complete backup so if all goes wrong we can just restore from the previous installation.

Functionality may break for a bit, so I’ll switch off any registering for new blogs until we can make sure it’s working fine.

Broken New Blogs

January 13th, 2009

Hi there,

For a while new blogs that signed up would just white page upon activation. If you used the login link emailed to you and changed the theme everything should be working.

I’ve manually gone through and switched them theme of those blogs it’s affecting, don’t worry. A side-effect of this is you’ll see me added as an admin of your blog, but don’t worry, you can go ahead and remove me (otherwise I will when I get a chance).

Hopefully that will no longer appear, I think I’ve fixed the problem.

Cheers :)

Theme Requests

January 11th, 2009
Comments Off

Currently our number of themes is minimal. This is because themes need to be tweaked to actually work on this website.

So I’ve pulled them all down and am going to slowly work through them.

So here’s how it works. If you discover while Googling around a theme you love and want it for your blog, you just need to post in this thread a link to the theme’s home page. I will check it out and then add the tweaks and then make it available to be used.

Note: If it’s a theme you’ve paid for yourself (why?) then I’ll add it just for you and not everyone else.

If you google for “Free Wordpress Theme” you’ll find thousands of them.

The themes we had I’ll be working on when I can and releasing them in small batches.

If your current theme is broken or breaks, please poke me by creating a thread in the support forum and I’ll attempt to fix it (if I can).

Please discuss this post in it’s forum thread -> Theme Requests
